Who We Are

About Us

As I was doing consulting work in rural areas of Northern Peru, I met Peruvian mango farmers who would often complain about not being paid fair prices for their products and the intermediaries getting the big bucks. I felt bad for these farmers. As a Peruvian living in Canada for more than 20 years and being blessed to live in such a beautiful country, I wanted to help my fellow Peruvians to trade their agricultural products overseas. As I was walking through the city streets of Piura and thought about how to help Peruvian farmers, I smelled the aroma of freshly roasted coffee. I stopped at a coffee shop where they sold fresh roasted and ground coffee and you could also enjoy a cup of coffee. I decided to sit down for a cup. I know my mother who lives close to Piura, mentioned that there was a place in Av. Grau in Piura where they sold the best coffee. Sure enough, I found this place. Coffee from Canchaque and El Faique, Piura. It was the best coffee I ever tried.

I love coffee and Canadians know how popular coffee is in Canada. So I thought it would be great to sell this delicious, chocolaty flavour coffee in Canada. As Covid hit and I had more time, I decided to invest my time and energy in moving my coffee/mango import project forward. As I researched more and more about the world of coffee I became more enthusiastic about the coffee business. I ended up visiting coffee growers from El Faique, Piura, and Jaen, Cajamarca. I met Don José and Señora Filonila from El Faique who showed me the artisanal way of drying coffee in their backyard. Mrs Filonila showed me how to roast the coffee in a clay pan with a wood stove. I learned the whole process from the cultivation of the coffee cherry plants, through the process of harvesting, drying, packing and selling to exporters. I also met with coffee exporters. I came back to Canada and decided to complete the whole cycle from growing coffee to consuming coffee. I decided to become an importer, and distributor of green and roasted coffee. Ah! And decided to register our own brand A TASTE OF PERU!
